Authentic Homemade Greek Tzatziki

Fresh, creamy homemade tzatziki made with real ingredients, just like they use in Greece. Perfect with pita, gyros, or grilled meats.

Equipment

  • Mixing bowl
  • grater or food processor
  • spatula
  • Clean kitchen towel or paper towels or cheesecloth

Ingredients

  • 1 English cucumber grated and peeled
  • 2 cups Greek yogurt full fat recommended
  • 4-5 garlic cloves minced
  • 1-2 teaspoon Maldon sea salt flakes to taste
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil optional to drizzle on top
  • juice of ½ a lemon squeezed
  • 1 tablespoon fresh dill stems removed and finely chopped (or 1 teaspoon dried dill)
  • black pepper, freshly ground to taste

Instructions

  • Grate the cucumber, then use a clean towel or paper towels to squeeze out excess moisture.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, garlic, sea salt, lemon juice, and olive oil.
  • Stir in the dill and season with freshly ground black pepper.
  • Mix well until fully combined.
  • Refrigerate for at least 15 minutes to allow the flavors to develop.
  • Serve chilled.
